wow that is such an amazing dress, it would be so wonderful just to walk around a palace in that! though i wouldn’t like to live in those times!!! the 21st centry suits me best!
Sorry, didn’t really anticipate the question, Lorrie. However, looking at the image obtained from the I’net, it seems to be a portion of an oil painting that has been scanned and the lady in question in her voluminous gown has been isolated using Photoshop or something like it. If anyone has better information about the photo in question, please let me know.
After a little more research, I find that the Marie-Antoinette costume is a photo of a gown and jewelry designed by Gilbert Adrian for Norma Shearer in MGM’s production of ‘Marie Antoinette’, 1938. There was no attribution for the photographer. Probably a staff photographer for MGM Studio at the time. So the costume is not an actual garment from the time, but obviously designed after studying paintings and museum pieces. Hope that helps.

Why isn’t it made clear whether or not this is an actual historic dress or a modern copy ?

It looks very much like the many portraits of Marie-Antoinette done by Elizabeth VigĂ©e-Le Brun, a contemporary artist about the same age as Marie and favored by Marie because her portraits were more flattering than the others. [It’s good to be the Queen!]

In which scene of the movie does she wear this dress?
